What is Sports Therapy?
Sprots therapy is an aspect of healthcare that is specifically concearned with the prevention of injury and the rehabilitation of the patient back to optimum levels of functional, occupational and sport specific fitness.
What is a sports therapist?
A sports therapist is a practitioner who has the knowledge and ability to provide first aid and attend injuries in a recriational, training and competitive environment. they have the knowledge and ability to provide sports massage, to implement appropriate rehabilitation programmes and utilise sports and exercise principles to optimise injury prevention programmes.
Our Sports Therapist Phil Smith has a strong background in Triathlon where he has represented the Great Britain age group team at World Championships in Madeira 2004, Honolulu 2005 and European Championships in Lausanne 2005 and Lorient 2007. Phil has also competed at several Ironman events finishing his 1st Ironman in Austria 2004. He has progressed on to race Quelle Challenge Roth 2006, Lanzarote 2008 and Ironman UK 2008 where in finished 31st place overall.
In addition Phil is a British Triathlon qualified level 2 coach, and CYQ qualified advanced fitness instructor. As well as his work with TRI Phil works out of Connect Physio and has worked alongside Northumbria University rugby as team sports therapist
